Who are we?

We are a team of student journalists from Stevenson School in Pebble Beach, dedicated to uncovering, celebrating, and preserving the rich history and culture of the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities in the Monterey Peninsula.

Although AAPI individuals make up just 7% of the population today, our presence in this region dates back to its earliest days. From the Gold Rush to both World Wars, from building temples to establishing language schools, we have shaped Monterey’s history in profound ways. We built fishing villages, farms, and Chinatowns, leaving behind a legacy of resilience and innovation that continues to this day.

Our goal is to shed light on these contributions and ensure that the stories of our community are remembered, honored, and shared with future generations through the power of journalism.
